PM Modi Says J&K, Ladakh Witnessed Major Transformation Seven Years After Article 370 Abrogation

New Delhi, August 5, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday reaffirmed his government’s commitment towards the development of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh, stating that both Union Territories have witnessed “wide-ranging transformation” across various sectors in the seven years since the abrogation of Article 370.

Marking the seventh anniversary of the historic decision, PM Modi said that the lives of people in Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh have undergone significant changes, with progress in infrastructure, education, healthcare, entrepreneurship and sports.

“Seven years ago, on this day, Articles 370 and 35(A) became history, marking a decisive new chapter in the journey of Jammu and Kashmir as well as Ladakh,” the Prime Minister posted on X.

He said that the full implementation of the Constitution of India had empowered sections, including women and marginalised communities, who had been deprived of certain constitutional rights for decades.

“Since then, the lives of the people of J&K and Ladakh have witnessed wide-ranging transformation. Infrastructure has expanded, opportunities in areas such as education, healthcare, entrepreneurship and sports have grown,” PM Modi said.

The Prime Minister also highlighted the significance of August 5 this year, noting that the country would commemorate the 125th birth anniversary of Dr Syama Prasad Mookerjee, the founder of the Bharatiya Jana Sangh.

“His lifelong commitment to national unity continues to inspire generations. What he envisioned decades ago found historic fulfilment on 5th August 2019,” he said.

PM Modi reiterated that the government remains committed to ensuring development opportunities for every citizen of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh, enabling them to contribute towards the vision of a Viksit Bharat.

Article 370 was incorporated into the Constitution when it came into effect in 1950 and provided special status to the erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir. On August 5, 2019, the provision was made inoperative through a Presidential Order, and the state was reorganised into two Union Territories — Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh.

The decision marked a major constitutional change, ending the special provisions that had governed Jammu and Kashmir for decades.
