Actress Archana Puran Singh has spoken about the growing criticism faced by Gen Z, saying that youngsters should not be blamed for adapting to the environment created by society and previous generations.
In an exclusive conversation with IANS, the actress said children today are a reflection of the world they have grown up in and that comparing them with earlier generations is unfair.
“I feel that as a society, we have become very judgemental. If the kids of this time are like this, then there is a reason for it. Children are shaped by their environment. If you change the environment, the children will change. So, it is not their fault,” Archana said.
She questioned why children are often held responsible for behaviours influenced by their upbringing and surroundings.
“The kids are not born learning anything. You teach them. Society teaches them. So, how are we blaming the kids?” she added.
Talking about the impact of technology, Archana said today’s generation is growing up in circumstances completely different from those experienced by previous generations.
She pointed out that children now have access to smartphones, cameras and digital platforms from a very young age, adding that these tools have become a natural part of their lives.
According to the actress, while misbehaviour among children existed earlier as well, the difference today is the presence of advanced technology and digital exposure. She said every generation adapts according to the era it is born into.
Archana has been part of the entertainment industry for more than four decades. She was recently seen in the series “Adarsh Baal Vidyalaya”, where her portrayal of Urmila Devi received appreciation.
The series, created by Biswapati Sarkar and Sameer Saxena and directed by Himank Gaur, also features Kay Kay Menon, Naveen Kasturia, Abhimanyu Singh, Deven Bhojani, Prasanna Bisht, Ajitesh Gupta, Annapurna Soni and Prachee Shah.
