CBI Brings Back Fugitive Vishakha Rathod from UAE in Financial Fraud Case

New Delhi, August 5, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), in coordination with the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) and the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), has successfully secured the deportation of Red Notice subject Vishakha Rathod from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to India, an official statement said on Wednesday.

Rathod, wanted in connection with a major financial fraud case, was brought back to India and handed over to the Maharashtra Police after arriving in Pune on August 3.

According to the investigation, Rathod, along with other accused persons, allegedly lured investors into putting money into multiple schemes by promising guaranteed fixed monthly returns. She is accused of misappropriating the funds collected from investors and routing the proceeds through multiple bank and demat accounts.

A Red Notice was issued against Rathod through INTERPOL following a request from Indian authorities.

The CBI, which functions as India’s National Central Bureau for INTERPOL, facilitates international cooperation with law enforcement agencies across the country through the BHARATPOL platform and coordinates assistance through INTERPOL channels.

The latest action comes amid the government’s intensified efforts to bring back fugitives who have escaped abroad to avoid legal proceedings. The Centre recently stated that 274 fugitive criminals have been brought back to India from 36 countries between 2019 and July 2026.

The Ministry of Home Affairs said the progress has been driven by stronger legal mechanisms, improved international cooperation, coordinated efforts among agencies and technology-based investigations.

The ministry said the government’s strategy to deal with fugitive offenders focuses on three key areas — global outreach, stronger coordination and diplomatic engagement.

The legal framework has also been strengthened through measures such as the Fugitive Economic Offenders Act, 2018, amendments to the National Investigation Agency (NIA) Act and the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) in 2019, along with provisions under the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) that allow trials in absentia under Sections 355 and 356.
