US President Donald Trump has said American military action against Iran may not be over, while ruling out immediate talks with Tehran and claiming that Iran has been left with limited military and economic capacity following the latest confrontation.
Speaking to reporters, Trump said Iran was under severe pressure and claimed that the country was struggling to pay its military personnel.
“They’re not paying their troops. They’re in deep trouble,” Trump said.
Trump also cautioned that the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz should not be viewed as an indication that possible US military operations against Iran had ended.
“They are in deep trouble, they have very little capacity, the strait of Ormuz is open, it doesn’t mean we finished with the military,” he said.
The President did not provide details of any potential further military action or specify circumstances that could lead Washington to launch additional operations.
Trump also ruled out immediate diplomatic engagement with Tehran, saying the reopening of the strategic waterway had reduced the immediate need for talks.
“There’s not a lot to speak with Iran, we are not looking to meet or anything, the strait is open,” he said.
His remarks indicated that the US administration was keeping military options open while not currently pursuing direct negotiations with Iran.
Asked whether the US would take action against Russia if Moscow failed to reduce its relationship with Tehran, Trump said the response would depend on Russia’s conduct.
“It depends, I think Russia has behaved quite well — so far regarding the Strait of Ormuz,” he said.
Trump did not specify what actions Russia had taken concerning the waterway or whether Moscow had given Washington any commitments regarding its relations with Iran.
His comments came amid continued concerns over commercial shipping and energy supplies passing through the region. Trump described the reopening of the strait as significant but stopped short of declaring the broader crisis over.
The Strait of Hormuz, located between Iran and Oman, connects the Persian Gulf with the Gulf of Oman and the Arabian Sea. It is a critical global energy corridor through which substantial volumes of oil and liquefied natural gas are transported to international markets.
