Seven people from Andhra Pradesh remain untraceable in flood-hit Nepal, while 34 others have been reported safe, officials said on Thursday.
According to officials, four people from the Kurnool-Adoni region have been confirmed safe in Tibet. Another 28 pilgrims from the Tirupati region are safe in Kathmandu and have been contacted through the Real-Time Governance Society (RTGS).
The seven people who remain untraceable are from Chittoor, Vijayawada, Kakinada and Guntur. Three of them had travelled to Mansarovar as part of a pilgrimage organised by the Isha Foundation. Their mobile phones are currently unreachable.
Officials said families of the affected people were being regularly updated about developments. A control room has been established at AP Bhavan in New Delhi to monitor the situation and coordinate assistance.
The Andhra Pradesh government is maintaining regular contact with the Central Government as well as Indian diplomatic missions in Kathmandu and China to track the stranded residents and facilitate their safe return.
Officials briefed Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu that several pilgrims from Andhra Pradesh who had travelled to Mansarovar were stranded amid the floods in Nepal. Information regarding their safety and whereabouts is being gathered continuously.
Naidu reviewed the situation with officials and took stock of relief and rescue measures. He directed authorities to use all available channels to ensure the safety and well-being of stranded residents.
The Chief Minister instructed officials to continuously track those whose whereabouts remain unknown and ensure their families receive information without delay.
He also directed authorities to maintain close coordination with the Central Government and Indian diplomatic missions and explore alternative routes for safe evacuation wherever required. Efforts should also be made to restore road and air connectivity, he said.
Naidu stressed that bringing Andhra Pradesh residents stranded or facing difficulties in Nepal safely back home should remain the top priority.
He directed all concerned departments to work in close coordination, continuously monitor the situation and keep him informed of the latest developments.
