Prime Minister Narendra Modi celebrated Raksha Bandhan with schoolchildren at his residence at 7, Lok Kalyan Marg, on Friday, sharing warm moments of interaction, smiles and high-fives with the children.
Modi posted a reel from the celebrations on Instagram with the caption, “Hi5, smiles and more during today’s Raksha Bandhan celebrations at 7, LKM.”
The video showed the Prime Minister interacting with the schoolchildren, exchanging greetings and shaking hands with them. During the interaction, a child asked Modi about his childhood dream.
“Aap logon se milne ka,” Modi replied, meaning that his dream was to meet all of them.
The Prime Minister was also seen exchanging high-fives with the children, who could be heard laughing and giggling during the interaction. He blessed the children and spent time with them during the festival celebrations.
Earlier in the day, Modi extended Raksha Bandhan greetings to people and wished that the bond of love, affection and mutual trust celebrated through the festival would remain unbreakable.
In a post on X, he said he wished the festival would bring happiness, prosperity and success to everyone.
Raksha Bandhan celebrates the bond of affection and protection between brothers and sisters. Traditionally, sisters tie rakhis around their brothers’ wrists and pray for their health, happiness and prosperity, while brothers express their affection through gifts and a pledge to support their sisters.
The festival is observed on Purnima, the full-moon day of the Hindu month of Shravana. This year, Raksha Bandhan is being celebrated on Friday.
As part of traditional celebrations, sisters apply tilak to their brothers’ foreheads before tying the rakhi, while families exchange sweets and gifts.
Raksha Bandhan is primarily celebrated in India and Nepal and falls during Shravana, which generally corresponds to August in the Gregorian calendar.
