Megastar Amitabh Bachchan took a nostalgic trip down memory lane on Kaun Banega Crorepati Season 18, recalling his academic struggles and revealing that he once considered pursuing a career in the Indian Foreign Service (IFS).
Bachchan shared the anecdote while discussing his college years and his late father, legendary poet Harivansh Rai Bachchan, who had stressed the importance of completing graduation.
Recalling his experience with science, Bachchan said that much of what he had studied over 10 years at school was covered in the very first lecture. He admitted that he felt he had made a mistake by choosing the subject and subsequently failed an examination.
He recalled that he eventually cleared the subject through the ATKT system by just two marks, adding humorously that he did not want anyone to know about it.
Bachchan also revealed that he had once thought about appearing for the UPSC examination and joining the Foreign Service. However, he said he eventually abandoned the idea because he knew very little about the field at the time.
The revelation came during a conversation with contestant Pragati Kalpekar, who spoke about her educational ambitions. Asked how she planned to use her prize money, Pragati said she wanted to continue her studies and become an IFS officer.
She explained that becoming a diplomat had always been her ambition, adding that she was particularly fascinated by the maroon passport issued to diplomats.
Pragati’s aspirations prompted Bachchan to share his own memories of considering the Foreign Service, as well as his struggles as a student.
The exchange offered viewers a glimpse into the megastar’s lesser-known academic experiences while highlighting the aspirations of a contestant determined to pursue a career in diplomacy.
