Yoga guru Baba Ramdev on Friday said he was sending a Raksha Bandhan gift and sweets to actress and BJP MP Kangana Ranaut, while calling for an end to hatred and hostility and urging people to resolve differences through dialogue.
His remarks came amid a recent controversy over Ranaut’s “Generation Gutter” comment while criticising protesters at Jantar Mantar. The statement drew criticism from sections of the entertainment industry and public life. Ramdev had also objected to the remarks publicly, resulting in an exchange between the two.
Speaking to reporters, Ramdev said he was sending the gift and sweets to Ranaut by post and would also call her to wish her on Raksha Bandhan.
“There should be no hatred in the country for any reason, and there should be no hostility towards one another. That is why we have completely given up all animosity. Any dispute should be resolved through dialogue,” he said.
Reflecting on the significance of Raksha Bandhan, Ramdev called for social harmony and an end to discrimination based on caste or community.
He referred to traditional examples associated with the festival, including Draupadi tying a rakhi to Lord Krishna and Brahmins tying rakhis to Kshatriyas, saying the festival represented love and solidarity between brothers and sisters.
Ramdev urged Indians across caste and community groups to reject discrimination, including against Dalits, Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes. He said society should follow what he described as a Vedic perspective that does not discriminate on the basis of caste, community, gender or sex.
He also appealed to political parties to promote unity, suggesting that ruling and Opposition parties should symbolically “tie rakhis” to send a message against discrimination.
On the flash floods in Nepal, Ramdev said members of Patanjali Yoga Samiti and Patanjali Yogpeeth were committed to helping those affected by the disaster.
Calling the situation in Nepal “extremely tragic”, he said the loss of lives and separation of families had caused deep pain and described the disaster as a major crisis involving nature and the environment.
