Actress Catherine Tresa has expressed grief over the devastating flash floods in Nepal that have claimed at least 270 lives and left hundreds of people missing.
Taking to social media, Catherine offered condolences to those who lost their lives and expressed solidarity with families in India and Nepal awaiting news of their loved ones.
“To lose so many lives to the sudden fury of nature is a tragedy that leaves us breathless. My heart is heavy for the families in India and Nepal waiting in agonizing silence for news of their loved ones. We grieve with you, and we hold onto hope for the hundreds still missing,” she wrote.
The actress also shared official embassy helpline numbers and urged her followers to circulate the information to help those seeking assistance.
Catherine is among several celebrities who have expressed shock and sorrow over the disaster.
Tamil filmmaker Venkat Prabhu shared his thoughts and prayers for those affected, saying he hoped those still missing would be found safe and that Nepal would find the strength to recover from the tragedy.
Telugu actor and producer Vishnu Manchu also expressed solidarity with the people of Nepal, offering condolences to bereaved families and prayers for those awaiting news of their loved ones.
Actor Silambarasan, popularly known as Simbu, was among the early film personalities to react to the disaster. He expressed concern for those affected, including people still awaiting rescue.
The flash flood struck the Bhote Koshi River region after an avalanche blocked the flow of the Lhende tributary of the Bhotekoshi near Timure, close to the Nepal-China border at Rasuwagadhi, according to The Kathmandu Post.
The disaster reportedly occurred without rainfall in the area, leaving residents with little warning as floodwaters suddenly swept through the region.
Hundreds of people, including security personnel and tourists, were reported missing following the disaster. Authorities continue to assess the human toll and damage to infrastructure while search, rescue and relief operations remain underway.
