Security forces recovered two hand grenades from a man during a naka checking operation in Jammu and Kashmir’s Baramulla district, while the Army separately foiled a suspected Pakistani drone intrusion along the Line of Control (LoC) in Rajouri, officials said on Friday.
The grenades were recovered during vehicle and pedestrian checks at Wussan Bangil in the Kunzer area of north Kashmir. The joint operation involved personnel from Kunzer Police Station, SOG Kunzer, CRPF 176 Battalion and 2 Rashtriya Rifles.
According to police, a man allegedly tried to flee after noticing the security personnel during the checking operation but was apprehended at the spot. He was identified as Shakir Nabi Lone, a resident of Hardu Aboora in Kunzer.
A personal search led to the recovery of two hand grenades, following which FIR No. 115/2026 was registered at Kunzer Police Station under relevant provisions of law. Further investigation is underway.
In a separate operation in Rajouri district, the Army detected three drones that had entered Indian airspace near Rumlidhara in Nowshera during the intervening night of August 27 and 28.
Troops activated counter-drone systems after detecting the aerial movement. Officials said the swift response forced all three drones to retreat across the border. A search operation was subsequently launched in the area as a precautionary measure.
Security agencies have repeatedly flagged the use of drones by handlers of terror organisations to transport weapons, ammunition, cash and narcotics across the border into Jammu and Kashmir. According to officials, such consignments are generally collected by overground workers associated with terror networks before being passed on to terrorists.
The Army and Border Security Force, which guard the LoC and International Border in the Union Territory, have deployed advanced anti-drone systems to detect and counter such intrusions.
