The Karnal unit of the State Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau (SV & ACB) has arrested a panchayat secretary red-handed while allegedly accepting a ₹1 lakh bribe for processing bills related to development works worth around ₹15 lakh in Panipat district.
The accused, identified as Kiran, Panchayat Secretary of Gram Panchayat Ram Nagar Jeetgarh, was arrested while accepting the bribe. The entire bribe amount was also recovered from her, according to the bureau.
An FIR (No. 23), dated August 27, 2026, has been registered under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act at the State Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau police station in Karnal.
According to the complaint, the complainant, a private contractor, had undertaken development works worth around ₹15 lakh in Gram Panchayat Ram Nagar Jeetgarh, Block Panipat. The works included construction of a drain, a village boundary road, a wall at the cremation ground, street construction and drain cleaning, among others.
The complainant alleged that Kiran had demanded ₹1.20 lakh for processing the bills related to the completed development works. Following negotiations, the alleged bribe amount was settled at ₹1 lakh.
After verifying the complaint, the Karnal SV & ACB team laid a trap and caught the accused while she was allegedly accepting the ₹1 lakh bribe. A gazetted officer and shadow witness were also present during the trap operation.
