SSP Rupnagar S. Maninder Singh, IPS, has been named among India’s 25 Best Police Officers in a national list released by Fame India–Asia Post, with the selection recognising police leadership, crime control, law-and-order management and public outreach.
Four officers from Punjab and one from Chandigarh have figured in the list for what the organisation described as effective and people-centric policing.
A 2019-batch Punjab-cadre IPS officer, S. Maninder Singh took charge as SSP Rupnagar in January 2026. His stated priorities include transparent, corruption-free police administration, effective law-and-order management and prompt action against crime.
According to the profile released with the recognition, Singh received an ‘Outstanding’ grade from the Reviewing Board during his training at the National Police Academy. He was also described as an accomplished sportsperson and dedicated team player.
During his posting as Assistant Superintendent of Police in Mansa, he traced a double-murder case in Moosa village within 72 hours. While serving in Amritsar South, operations under his leadership led to the recovery of a hand grenade, solution of three blind-murder cases, rescue of three kidnapped minor girls, and seizure of 4.7 kg heroin, a drone and ₹67.59 lakh in drug proceeds.
As SP Headquarters in Tarn Taran, he oversaw the peaceful handling of more than 100 protests and redeployed 50 per cent of the police force to field stations. The district subsequently improved its Sanjh Kendra ranking from among the bottom five to the top five. His tenure also saw action against a ₹25-lakh hawala-drug network.
As ADC to the Governor, Singh handled protocol arrangements for 42 high-profile official visits and major oath-taking ceremonies at Raj Bhavan.
Later, as SSP Amritsar Rural, he led flood relief and rescue operations in border villages, facilitating the safe evacuation of thousands of residents.
Under his leadership, police also stepped up action against the narco-terror network, resulting in 1,354 arrests and recovery of 237 kg heroin, ₹1.9 crore in drug money, 297 pistols and 15 hand grenades. More than 800 Village Defence Committees were activated, while illegally acquired properties worth around ₹10 crore were frozen.
In May 2025, Amritsar Rural Police arrested two people for allegedly sharing sensitive information about military establishments and personnel movements with a Pakistani intelligence network. Investigators said photographs of military installations and airbases, along with other sensitive information, had allegedly been shared.
Singh’s career has also included challenging phases, with November 2025 described as a significant and difficult period. He was subsequently appointed SSP Rupnagar in January 2026, where he has reiterated his focus on transparent policing, strong law-and-order arrangements and strict action against anti-social elements.
