Singer-composer Amaal Mallik has shared a picture from a hospital bed shortly after announcing a break from film music, saying he wants to prioritise his health, healing and personal well-being.
Mallik posted the photograph on social media, in which he is seen sitting on a hospital bed wearing a white T-shirt and a blue Superman cap. He captioned the image, “Too much Awarapan leads to this only.”
The singer-composer had on Thursday announced on X, formerly Twitter, that he would step away from film music until next year. He said the break was necessary for his “mind, body, soul and overall physical healing” and expressed hope of returning with new music.
“I am all good & I will go all the way in, this time, to do what is best for me & only do what is important to my heart & for my health,” Mallik wrote.
“Need a break for my mind, body, soul and overall physical healing. Need to rise, recuperate and bounce back soon with a heart full of melodies for you all my dearest #Amaalians,” he added.
Mallik also said previously recorded songs from smaller-budget films could be released in the coming months, depending on whether the films secure theatrical releases.
“No more film music till next year,” he said, adding that he was taking time away from the industry and would provide updates as he learns more about the projects.
“Music se cinema tak ka safar mujhe bohot door le aaya hai, ab music ki taraf wapas chalne laga hoon…. Ab mujhe Vida Karo,” he wrote before signing off.
His announcement follows a period in which Mallik has publicly spoken about difficulties he says he has faced in the Hindi film music industry. In May, he alleged that influential people had kept him out of several projects and claimed he had faced threats after speaking about the functioning of the industry.
In July, Mallik was also involved in a public social media dispute with composer-singer Tanishk Bagchi. He accused Bagchi of copying songs, using paid public relations and taking credit for work he alleged had been created by others. Mallik subsequently deleted the posts but said their removal did not mean he was withdrawing his allegations.
On the professional front, Mallik recently composed “Yeh Awarapan” for “Awarapan 2”, starring Emraan Hashmi.
