Andhra MP’s son tests negative for alcohol after fatal Aston Martin crash

New Delhi, August 22, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

Preliminary tests for alcohol and drugs have returned negative for 21-year-old Lingamaneni Sanjush, son of Andhra Pradesh Rajya Sabha MP Lingamaneni Ramesh, following a fatal Aston Martin crash in Hyderabad, police said.

The accident occurred near Inorbit Mall on August 16 when the luxury car, allegedly being driven by Sanjush, struck 26-year-old Bharati Mukhi, a sales executive. She was critically injured and taken to Apollo Hospital, where doctors declared her dead on arrival.

Investigators have alleged that Sanjush was driving at high speed and in a rash and negligent manner when the collision occurred. The Aston Martin has been seized and examined by a Motor Vehicle Inspector, with the inspection report awaited.

Although preliminary screening found no alcohol or narcotic substances, police have sent Sanjush’s blood samples to the Forensic Science Laboratory for detailed analysis. The final forensic findings, along with the vehicle inspection and Bharati’s post-mortem report, will form part of the investigation.

A case has been registered under Section 106(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which deals with causing death by a rash or negligent act and carries a maximum punishment of five years in prison.

Police said Sanjush was not arrested immediately as the evidence available at that stage did not warrant custodial action. He was instead served a notice under Section 35 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) and directed to cooperate with the investigation.

The Deputy Commissioner of Police rejected allegations of preferential treatment because of Sanjush’s political connections, saying the police action was in accordance with law and Supreme Court guidelines on arrests. Police said he could be arrested later if further evidence warrants such action.

Investigators are examining forensic, technical and other evidence to establish the circumstances of the crash. The Aston Martin was reportedly not registered in Sanjush’s name.

Sanjush has maintained that he did not flee the scene and helped take Bharati to hospital before cooperating with the police.

After the post-mortem, Bharati’s body was handed over to her brother and taken to Odisha. Her post-mortem report is awaited. Bharati was reportedly the sole earning member of her family, prompting calls for financial assistance to her relatives.
