Mumbai, October 4, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

National Award-winning actor and producer Anjali Patil is hoping Brazilian filmmaker Walter Salles watches her film ‘Selvi’ as it heads to the 50th São Paulo International Film Festival following its world premiere at the Busan International Film Festival.

The film has been selected for the New Filmmakers Competition at the prestigious Brazilian festival, marking its second international festival selection.

Patil said the selection is particularly meaningful as the São Paulo International Film Festival is celebrating its Golden Jubilee this year.

“São Paulo completing 50 years makes this selection really special. It’s a Golden Jubilee year for one of the most celebrated and largest film festivals in South America, so to be part of this edition makes us very proud,” she said.

The actor revealed that she has written to Salles, expressing her hope that he gets an opportunity to watch ‘Selvi’ during the festival.

Patil said Salles’ films, particularly ‘The Motorcycle Diaries’ and ‘I’m Still Here’, have had a lasting influence on her since her days at the National School of Drama.

“Brazil also has a very personal connection for me because of Walter Salles. His films, especially ‘The Motorcycle Diaries’ and ‘I’m Still Here’, have had a tremendous impact on me since my days at the National School of Drama,” she said.

“I’ve written to him to tell him that our film is coming to São Paulo and that his films have been a big part of my life. It would be such an honour if he gets to watch ‘Selvi’ there,” she added.

Patil also hopes that filmmaker S.S. Rajamouli, who is scheduled to attend the festival, gets an opportunity to watch the film.

“SS Rajamouli sir is also going to be at the festival this year, and I hope to reach out to him as well,” she said.

Patil explained that no member of the ‘Selvi’ team will be able to represent the film in São Paulo because of an overlap with the Busan festival. She said having the film travel from Busan to São Paulo was itself a significant moment for the team.

“Since no one from our team will be able to represent the film in São Paulo because of the overlap with Busan, it would be wonderful if he could watch ‘Selvi’. For all of us, having the film travel from Busan to São Paulo is very special,” she said.

With its journey now extending from Busan to São Paulo, ‘Selvi’ is gaining an international platform while Patil hopes the film reaches filmmakers whose work has personally influenced her artistic journey.
