India captain Shubman Gill won the toss and elected to bat first against the West Indies in the third and final ODI at the New PCA Stadium here on Saturday, with Anshul Kamboj handed his international debut.

Nitish Kumar Reddy and Mohammed Siraj also returned to the playing XI as India made three changes for the final match of the series.

India have already secured an unassailable 2-0 lead and will look to complete a clean sweep with another victory.

Kamboj joined the squad on Friday after being withdrawn from India A’s second four-day match against Australia A in Puducherry. He was brought into the side after Prasidh Krishna was ruled out with a left hamstring injury sustained during the second ODI in Guwahati.

Nitish and Siraj replaced Ravindra Jadeja and Auqib Nabi in India’s XI.

“We have got a beautiful surface and it is going to be a good wicket to bat on. Our batting has been good, bowling has been a concern at times,” Gill said after winning the toss for the third consecutive time.

“We need to keep trying and be better. Fifteen to 20 runs make a huge difference. The more we play, the better it is as our bowling is inexperienced. That will make a huge difference for us,” he added.

West Indies captain Shai Hope said his side would look for greater consistency with the bat and make the most of the opportunities against India.

The visitors made three changes, bringing in Jewel Andrew, Matthew Forde and Gudakesh Motie in place of Keacy Carty, Roston Chase and Shamar Joseph.

“I just want to be consistent with the bat. I thought we’ve been playing some really good cricket in the batting side of things. It’s just about being a little bit better with the ball and executing more on our plans,” Hope said.

He also praised the exposure young players in the West Indies squad were getting during the India tour.

“When you come to India, you want to play against the best teams in the world and they really embraced it. I can see that they are fighting and it is good to see they are learning a lot in the short space of time. Hopefully, they can continue to grow as strong cricketers,” he said.
