Ahmedabad, August 22, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)
The Ahmedabad City Crime Branch has registered a case against an X user for allegedly circulating a fabricated social media post claiming that Gujarat Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi would replace Bhupendra Patel as Chief Minister and that Patel would be appointed Governor.
The case was registered against the account identified as Pawan Tyagi (@PAWANTYAGI_07), after the post was published on X.
According to the Crime Branch, the claim was “false and fabricated” and was circulated in a manner that could harm the reputation of both Patel and Sanghavi, besides affecting the constitutional position of the Chief Minister.
The Hindi-language post stated: “Big breaking news, Gujarat Deputy CM Harsh Sanghavi will be made the Chief Minister of Gujarat. CM Bhupendra Patel will be made the Governor.”
The police said the post was subsequently circulated on social media and alleged that the electronic content had been created and published as part of a criminal conspiracy.
The account from which the post was published was identified as @PAWANTYAGI_07. Its profile describes Tyagi as “Executive Editor, Pyara Hindustan News Network, The News Channel, Swayamsevak”.
The Crime Branch has registered the case under Sections 336(4), 353(1) and 61(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Section 66(D) of the Information Technology Act.
The investigation will examine the creation and circulation of the alleged fabricated electronic content and the circumstances surrounding the social media post.
The police said action would be taken against individuals who upload false or misleading content on social media if such posts have the potential to create fear or panic among the public.
The case follows the circulation of a specific claim about a possible change in Gujarat’s top political office, naming both the incumbent Chief Minister and his deputy. The Crime Branch has rejected the claim as false and fabricated.
Police have also appealed to the public to exercise caution and verify information before believing or circulating potentially misleading content on social media platforms.
