Better to End War Now as Iran is in ‘Position of Strength’: President Pezeshkian

Tehran, August 21, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has said it would be preferable to end the war with the United States now, arguing that Iran is negotiating from a position of “power and dignity”.

Addressing the 31st General Assembly of the Islamic Association of the Iranian Medical Society in Tehran, Pezeshkian said the conflict would eventually have to end and that Iran should seek an end to hostilities while it considers itself to be in a strong position.

“It is better that we end the war today when we are in a position of power and dignity,” he said, according to a statement published on the Iranian President’s official website.

Pezeshkian claimed that the international community had recognised Iran’s position and accused the United States of violating international regulations by attacking Iranian schools, hospitals and infrastructure.

The Iranian President also described a memorandum of understanding signed between Iran and the US in June as an “honourable and valuable” agreement. He said none of its provisions amounted to surrender and maintained that its obligations rested with the other side.

Pezeshkian said the outcome of negotiations with Washington represented a significant achievement that had received approval from Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, where he said members had strongly supported it.

At the same time, he warned that Iran would not capitulate if subjected to another attack.

“We will under no circumstance bow to bullying, and there is no doubt about it,” he said, adding that Iran would continue resisting and that its military commanders and armed forces remained ready to defend the country.

Iran and the United States signed the MoU on June 18 concerning an end to their war in the region on all fronts. The agreement envisaged negotiations over 60 days towards a final settlement, with the period ending on Monday.

However, the future of the negotiations remains uncertain following an escalation between the two countries last month.
