Punjab government school teacher Dinesh Kumar of Government Victoria Girls Senior Secondary School, Patiala, has been selected for the prestigious National Teachers’ Award 2026 in recognition of his exemplary contribution to education.
Punjab Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains congratulated Dinesh Kumar on the achievement and described the national recognition as a proud moment for Punjab’s government school system and its teaching community.
The National Teachers’ Award is among the country’s highest honours for educators and is conferred by the President of India on Teachers’ Day, September 5, in recognition of exceptional excellence, innovation and dedication in education.
Bains said Kumar’s recognition at the national level reflected the quality of education being delivered in Punjab government schools and the dedication of the state’s teachers.
“His recognition at the national level is a testament to the quality of education being imparted in Punjab Government schools and the relentless efforts of our teachers,” Bains said.
The Education Minister said the Punjab Government, under Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, remained committed to empowering teachers and transforming the state’s education system.
He added that the honour would encourage the wider teaching community and inspire more government school teachers to pursue excellence in their work.
Bains said such national-level recognition was in line with the government’s vision of ensuring quality education while acknowledging the contribution of teachers, whom he described as the “true architects of a progressive society”.
