New Delhi, August 21, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) National Convenor Arvind Kejriwal has claimed that India’s annual per capita income has fallen below that of Bangladesh, while criticising the economic record of the Narendra Modi-led government.

In a post on X and a video message, Kejriwal said India’s per capita income was now around $2,800, compared with $2,900 for Bangladesh. He contrasted the figures with 2014, when he said India’s per capita income stood at $1,600 against Bangladesh’s $1,100.

“I am going to tell you something that will come as a major shock to every patriot. India has now been declared a poorer country than Bangladesh,” Kejriwal said.

He argued that people had voted for Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2014 with the expectation that India would emerge as the world’s wealthiest country and surpass major global economies.

“In 2014, people elected PM Modi with great hope that we would overtake America,” Kejriwal said, accusing the government of failing to fulfil those expectations.

Kejriwal also cited per capita income figures for other countries, saying Switzerland’s stood at $115,000, Singapore’s at $99,000 and the United States’ at $90,000.

He alleged that the country had been left economically weaker despite promises of making India a “Vishwaguru”.

The figures and comparisons cited by Kejriwal are his claims in his social media post and video message.
