Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Thursday met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi and discussed the state’s flood recovery and reconstruction plans, along with key initiatives undertaken by his government during its first 100 days in office.
Sarma said the meeting focused on the next phase of Assam’s flood response, particularly reconstruction in affected areas, restoration of livelihoods and comprehensive rehabilitation of flood-hit people.
In a post on X, the Chief Minister said Modi had remained in regular contact with the Assam government during the flood situation, monitored developments and extended assistance from the Centre.
“Today in New Delhi, I had the privilege of calling upon Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi Ji to seek his blessings and guidance,” Sarma said.
He said he briefed the Prime Minister on the roadmap prepared by the state government to rebuild flood-affected areas, restore normalcy and help people regain their livelihoods.
According to Sarma, Modi reaffirmed the Centre’s “unwavering support” to Assam and assured that the Union government would continue assisting the state until the recovery and rehabilitation process reaches its conclusion.
The Chief Minister also apprised Modi of major initiatives undertaken by the Assam government during its first 100 days, aimed at fulfilling the mandate received from the people and advancing its broader development agenda.
Sarma said these initiatives were aligned with the government’s vision of building a “Viksit Assam”.
The meeting comes as Assam continues to address the impact of recurring floods, which have affected communities, infrastructure, agriculture and livelihoods across several districts.
Sarma said coordinated efforts between the Centre and the state would remain important for strengthening Assam’s capacity to deal with recurring floods while maintaining the pace of infrastructure development and welfare initiatives.
He thanked the Prime Minister for his continued guidance and support, and said the Centre’s assistance would be crucial in taking the state’s recovery and rehabilitation efforts forward.
