Several HDFC Securities customers reported discrepancies in the Net Asset Values (NAVs) of mutual funds displayed on the platform on Thursday, with some portfolios temporarily showing losses of up to 70 per cent.
An investor told IANS that their mutual fund portfolio, which had remained in profit until Wednesday, showed a loss of around 30 per cent, amounting to nearly ₹1 lakh, when checked on Thursday morning.
The investor said the portfolio comprised two mutual funds. While the NAV of one fund appeared normal, the NAV of the other was shown at around 50 per cent lower than its expected level, resulting in a substantial decline in the overall portfolio value.
Customers also reported seeing a message on the HDFC Securities app acknowledging an issue with mutual fund NAVs. The message read: “Important Update…We are working on the MF NAV issue…Thanks for your patience.”
Similar complaints surfaced on X, with users reporting sharp and apparently unusual declines in the NAVs of mutual funds held through the platform.
One user claimed that the NAV of their Nippon Multicap Fund investment had fallen by 71 per cent. Another reported that the displayed NAV of Nippon India Small Cap Fund – Growth had dropped suddenly to 111.1869 from around 185, causing the portfolio to reflect a return of nearly minus 30 per cent.
The user questioned whether the decline was the result of a technical issue or an error in the NAV displayed by the brokerage and sought clarification.
HDFC Securities is among India’s major brokerage firms. According to information on its website, the platform has more than five million customers.
The reported discrepancies relate to the NAVs displayed on the platform and do not by themselves establish an actual decline in the underlying mutual fund investments.
