Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann on Monday led the Vidhan Sabha in paying heartfelt tributes to personalities and martyrs who passed away since the last session of the Assembly.
At the beginning of the Monsoon Session of the 16th Punjab Vidhan Sabha, the House paid homage to former MLA Sahi Ram Bishnoi, martyr Sepoy Sarabjit Singh, freedom fighter S. Seva Singh, Olympian Randhir Singh, renowned lyricist and writer Bhula Ram, popularly known as Chann Goraya, S. Manjeet Singh Dhos, uncle of MLA Devinderjeet Singh Laddi Dhos, and S. Bhupinder Singh Pahra, uncle of MLA Barindermeet Singh Pahra.
On the recommendation of MLA Sarvjit Kaur Manuke, the Assembly also paid respects to Army martyr Sikander Singh.
Vidhan Sabha Speaker Kultar Singh Sandhwan highlighted the lives and contributions of the departed personalities while reading brief accounts of their achievements and services.
The House also expressed condolences over the deaths of students who lost their lives amid the uncertainty caused by the NEET examination paper leak controversy. Members conveyed sympathy to the bereaved families.
A two-minute silence was observed in the Assembly as a mark of respect to all those remembered during the obituary references.
