Congress can ensure peace and stability in Punjab: Bhupesh Baghel in Fazilka

Fazilka, August 4, 2026 (Vikram Ditya Sharma)

AICC general secretary in-charge for Punjab Bhupesh Baghel on Tuesday claimed that only the Congress could provide stability, peace and security in the state, alleging that the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government had pushed Punjab towards lawlessness.

Addressing the ‘Har Booth Congress Mazboot’ programme in Fazilka, Baghel said Punjab required a stable government and asserted that people had made up their minds to bring the Congress back to power in the 2027 Assembly elections.

Baghel said his assessment was based on his recent tour of ten districts of Punjab, where he claimed to have interacted with people and party workers. He urged Congress workers to set aside minor differences and work collectively to strengthen the organisation ahead of the elections.

“Differences of opinion are natural in every family, but they should not become a hurdle in the larger political fight,” he told party workers.

Targeting the AAP government, Baghel alleged that Punjab was witnessing a deterioration in law and order, claiming that gangsters were openly issuing extortion threats and innocent people were being killed in broad daylight. He also accused the state government of encouraging sand, land and mining mafias.

Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC) president Amrinder Singh Raja Warring said his biggest aspiration was to see a Congress chief minister take oath after the next Assembly elections.

Thanking the Congress leadership and Rahul Gandhi for placing confidence in him, Warring said he had remained loyal to the party and would continue to work for its strengthening.

Warring also warned that indiscipline would not be tolerated within the party. He said those working as “sleeper cells” for rival political parties would not be considered for party tickets, stressing that loyalty to the Congress would remain a key criterion.

Launching another attack on Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, Warring accused the AAP government of pushing Punjab towards deeper challenges of drugs, debt and unemployment.

He alleged that declining investment in the state had affected employment opportunities and forced Punjabi youth to look towards foreign countries for better prospects.
