India’s Tanvi Sharma continued her strong campaign at the Taipei Open 2026, reaching the women’s singles final with a convincing straight-games victory over fifth seed and home favourite Huang Yu-hsun on Saturday.
The world No. 34 defeated Huang 21-17, 21-11 in just 33 minutes at the Taipei Arena to book her place in the title clash, where she will face Vietnam’s sixth seed Nguyen Thuy Linh on Sunday.
Unlike her hard-fought quarterfinal win over Thailand’s fourth seed Supanida Katethong, where she had to recover after losing momentum during the contest, Tanvi produced a composed performance in the semifinal. She controlled the pace from the start and denied Huang any opportunity to mount a comeback in front of the home crowd.
The final appearance marks another significant milestone in the 20-year-old Indian shuttler’s rapid rise on the international circuit. Tanvi was part of India’s gold medal-winning squad at the 2024 Badminton Asia Team Championships and has steadily strengthened her position among the country’s emerging badminton talents.
Her recent achievements include runner-up finishes at the Odisha Masters Super 100 and Guwahati Masters Super 100 in 2025, along with titles at the Bonn International in 2024 and Denmark Challenge in 2025.
India narrowly missed the chance of an all-Indian women’s singles final after Unnati Hooda was defeated by Nguyen Thuy Linh in the other semifinal. The Vietnamese shuttler won 21-15, 21-18 to set up the summit clash against Tanvi.
The men’s singles challenge ended in the quarterfinals, with Kiran George losing 21-12, 21-10 to Japan’s fourth seed Yudai Okimoto. Earlier, HS Prannoy had exited in the round of 16.
India’s doubles campaign had also concluded earlier in the tournament after Bhargav Ram Arigela and Viswa Tej Gobburu were knocked out in the opening round of the men’s doubles event.
