Punjab Horticulture, Freedom Fighters and Defence Services Welfare Minister Mohinder Bhagat on Thursday directed officials to expedite the ongoing recruitment process in the Horticulture Department to ensure better implementation of government schemes and improved services for farmers.
Chairing a review meeting in Chandigarh, Bhagat took stock of the progress of various ongoing projects and initiatives of the department. He said the Punjab Government, under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, is committed to strengthening the horticulture sector and taking necessary measures for its development.
The Cabinet Minister said adequate manpower in the department would play a crucial role in effectively implementing welfare programmes and ensuring timely assistance to horticulturists. He instructed officials to complete the recruitment process in a transparent, fair and time-bound manner.
During the meeting, Horticulture Secretary Arshdeep Singh Thind and Director Horticulture Manish Kumar gave a detailed presentation on various departmental schemes, development projects and key initiatives being undertaken across the state.
Expressing satisfaction over the progress of ongoing works, Bhagat directed officials to maintain regular communication with farmers and encourage them to adopt horticulture practices. He also emphasised ensuring that farmers receive maximum benefits from government schemes aimed at promoting the sector.
The Minister said strengthening horticulture would not only provide better opportunities to farmers but also contribute towards diversification and sustainable growth of Punjab’s agriculture sector.
