Punjab BJP President Sardar Kewal Singh Dhillon on Thursday welcomed the launch of the new ‘Easy Connect’ air service from Sri Guru Ram Dass Jee International Airport, Sri Amritsar Sahib, describing it as a historic initiative that will significantly benefit Punjab and the global NRI community.
Expressing gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Civil Aviation Minister Kinjarapu Ram Mohan Naidu, Dhillon said the facility introduced by Air India under the Central Government’s Hub-and-Spoke model would provide seamless international connectivity from Amritsar via Delhi to 27 destinations across the world.
According to Dhillon, the service will connect passengers from Amritsar to major international cities, including Toronto and Vancouver in Canada, New York, Chicago and San Francisco in the United States, London and Birmingham in the United Kingdom, Melbourne and Sydney in Australia, besides destinations across Europe, Southeast Asia and the Middle East, including Dubai.
He said one of the key features of the service is that passengers will be able to complete immigration and check-in formalities at Sri Guru Ram Dass Jee International Airport in Amritsar before departure. On reaching Delhi, travellers will not be required to change terminals or undergo baggage re-check procedures prior to boarding their international flights.
Dhillon said the facility would bring considerable relief to thousands of passengers from Punjab, particularly members of the NRI community who frequently travel to visit their families, attend social functions and participate in festivals and other important occasions.
He noted that lengthy immigration queues, repeated baggage checks and terminal transfers at Delhi Airport had often posed difficulties for passengers, especially senior citizens, women and children. The new arrangement, he said, would make international travel more convenient, efficient and comfortable.
Describing the initiative as another step reflecting the Centre’s commitment towards Punjab and its people, Dhillon said the improved connectivity would also contribute to the growth of tourism, trade and cultural exchanges in the state while saving valuable time for international travellers.
