Sikh Religious Decisions Will Follow Guru Panth’s Maryada: Giani Kuldeep Singh Gargajj on Anti-Sacrilege Law

Ferozepur, July 30, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

The Sikh Panth’s religious and internal matters will be decided only in accordance with the traditions and maryada (code of conduct) established by the Guru Panth, said Jathedar of Sri Akal Takht Sahib Giani Kuldeep Singh Gargajj while addressing a large gathering during the Miri-Piri Khalsa March.

Speaking during the march, Giani Gargajj said Sri Akal Takht Sahib, established by the Sikh Gurus, is the eternal and supreme seat of Sikh authority. He said governments may change with time, but the institution of the Guru’s Takht remains permanent.

He asserted that no government has the authority to decide matters related to Sikh religious affairs, including where the sacred saroop of Sri Guru Granth Sahib can be placed or taken. He added that while legal action should be taken against those involved in sacrilege cases and guilty persons should face strict punishment, interference by governments in religious matters would not be accepted by the Sikh community.

Giani Gargajj said religion is a matter of faith and devotion, and Sikh history bears witness to the sacrifices made by the community to protect its religious freedom and principles. He said the Miri-Piri Khalsa March aims to connect the Sikh community with the Guru, strengthen Sikh values and spread the message of unity.

Referring to protests against alleged anti-Panth activities at different locations, he said there is strong resentment among Sikh youth against actions considered harmful to Sikh traditions. He urged the community to remain vigilant against forces working against Sikh principles.

Addressing the gathering, Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) president Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami said the sixth Sikh Guru, Sri Guru Hargobind Sahib, established Sri Akal Takht Sahib and gave the Sikh community the principle of Miri-Piri, which represents the balance between spiritual and temporal authority.

Dhami said the highest position in Sikh tradition belongs to Sri Akal Takht Sahib and even the most influential personalities bow before it. He said the objective of the Miri-Piri Khalsa March is to unite the Sikh community and encourage the younger generation to connect with Gurbani, Gurmat and Sikh history.

The Miri-Piri Khalsa March, which began from Sri Akal Takht Sahib with the aim of promoting Sikh unity, Panthic awareness and preserving Sikh heritage among youth, received an enthusiastic response from devotees during its journey.

On its seventh day, the march departed from Gurdwara Jamni Sahib Bajidpur in Ferozepur for its next destination, Gurdwara Khalsa Diwan in Faridkot. Before the departure, a religious programme was organised at the gurdwara where Sri Harmandir Sahib granthi Giani Balwinder Singh addressed the devotees and highlighted Sikh history.

After prayers, the sacred saroop of Sri Guru Granth Sahib was placed in the palki sahib by Giani Balwinder Singh, while SGPC president Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami performed the chaur sahib seva.

The march received a warm welcome from devotees at several locations, including Ferozepur city, Noorpur Sethan Adda, Rukna Begu, Saiyan Wala, Golewala, Rajaiana, Navi Pipli, Basti Nanaksar and various parts of Faridkot. The night halt of the march was scheduled at Gurdwara Khalsa Diwan Faridkot, from where it will proceed further.

The bus carrying weapons associated with Sikh Gurus and martyr Sikhs, along with vehicles displaying portraits of Sikh martyrs, remained a major attraction for devotees accompanying the march.

Several senior Sikh leaders, SGPC office-bearers, religious personalities and a large number of devotees participated in the programme.
