President Droupadi Murmu returned to New Delhi on Sunday after concluding her three-nation State visit to Moldova, North Macedonia and Romania, aimed at strengthening India’s diplomatic and strategic engagement with the three European countries.
During the final leg of the tour, President Murmu held talks with Romanian President Nicusor Dan in Bucharest on enhancing bilateral cooperation and exchanging views on regional, global and multilateral issues. She was accorded a ceremonial welcome and guard of honour at the Cotroceni Palace.
The visit to Romania also saw the signing of three Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) covering cooperation in science and technology, sports, and the establishment of a Chair of Indian Studies at the University of Bucharest. It marked the first State visit by an Indian President to Romania in nearly three decades.
Earlier, President Murmu visited North Macedonia, where she met President Gordana Siljanovska-Davkova and Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski. The discussions focused on expanding bilateral cooperation across multiple sectors and strengthening ties between the two nations.
The President began her tour in Moldova, becoming the first Indian President to visit the country. In Chisinau, she met Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu and members of the Parliamentary Friendship Group, reaffirming India’s commitment to building a stronger and mutually beneficial partnership with Moldova.
President Murmu was accompanied during the visit by Minister of State for Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution Nimuben Jayantibhai Bambhaniya, and Members of Parliament Dr. Dinesh Sharma and Vijay Baghel.
