A two-year-old girl died after falling into Lake Pichola from a window of a lakeside hotel in Rajasthan’s Udaipur on Saturday, police said.
The child, identified as Dhimahi, was on a family vacation with her parents from Delhi when the tragic incident occurred at Hotel Jagat Niwas, located on the banks of Lake Pichola.
According to police, the family had gone to the hotel’s second-floor dining area for breakfast. While her parents were collecting food, the toddler reportedly slipped through a window behind them and fell into the lake.
Hotel staff and bystanders immediately rescued the child from the water and rushed her to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared her dead.
Assistant Sub-Inspector Ishaq Mohammad of Ghantaghar Police Station said the girl’s father, Sonu Singh Tanwar (34), and mother, Monica (29), residents of Fatehpur Beri in Delhi, had arrived in Udaipur for a holiday.
Following the incident, the body was sent to Maharana Bhupal Hospital for post-mortem examination before being handed over to the family. The bereaved parents later left for New Delhi with their daughter’s body.
Police have registered a case and launched an investigation to ascertain the circumstances leading to the incident.
