Opposition leaders in Maharashtra on Saturday welcomed the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, with NCP-SP chief Sharad Pawar describing it as a “major victory for the unity of youth power” following nationwide protests over alleged examination irregularities.
In a statement, Pawar praised the students who had staged protests at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar, saying their determination had compelled the government to accept moral responsibility. He said the resignation reflected the strength of democracy and credited the country’s youth for leading the movement.
Pawar also thanked Opposition MPs for extending parliamentary and moral support to the protesting students, calling the development a triumph of democratic values.
Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Sanjay Raut termed the resignation a political setback for the BJP leadership, while Maharashtra Congress Legislature Party leader Vijay Wadettiwar said growing public anger over unemployment, paper leaks and inflation had intensified pressure on the government.
NCP-SP MLA Rohit Pawar also hailed the resignation as the success of students across the country, saying the movement had demonstrated that united public action could compel those in power to be accountable.
Meanwhile, Maharashtra Congress president Harshwardhan Sapkal said the resignation was only the first step, asserting that those responsible for alleged examination paper leaks must face strict punishment before justice could be considered complete.
NCP-SP Working President and MP Supriya Sule echoed Sharad Pawar’s remarks, describing the resignation as a significant victory for the country’s youth and acknowledging the role played by Opposition parties in supporting the student movement.
Dharmendra Pradhan resigned as Union Education Minister earlier on Saturday amid nationwide protests over alleged examination paper leaks and demands for greater accountability in the education system.
