Bihar Bandh Sparks Clashes in Patna, Protests Disrupt Normal Life Across State

Patna, July 25, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

Violent clashes broke out between police and protesters in Patna on Saturday as a Bihar Bandh called by student organisations disrupted normal life across several parts of the state.

Thousands of students and supporters gathered near Gandhi Maidan, protesting over the alleged NEET paper leak, alleged police action against students, and demanding reforms in the examination system. Tensions escalated near Ramghulam Chowk after protesters reportedly hurled stones at security personnel, prompting police to resort to a lathi-charge to disperse the crowd.

Several vehicles were damaged during the unrest, while some protesters climbed mobile towers in a dramatic display of protest, leading authorities to tighten security across the city. Additional police personnel were deployed around Gandhi Maidan, Patna University, Ramghulam Chowk and other sensitive locations to prevent further escalation.

RJD leader Tej Pratap Yadav joined the protesters at Gandhi Maidan, carrying the national flag in support of the bandh.

The shutdown was organised by student groups, including the All India Students Association (AISA) and the Rashtriya Yuva Andolan (RYA), demanding strict action in the alleged NEET paper leak case, reforms in the examination process, and an inquiry into alleged police excesses against students.

The bandh also witnessed protests in Lakhisarai, Gaya, Saharsa, Sasaram, Ara and Chhapra. In Lakhisarai, police used a lathi-charge after a protest allegedly turned violent and incidents of vandalism were reported. A police constable, Varsha Kumari, sustained injuries during the operation and was taken for treatment.

Authorities said additional security forces had been deployed across affected districts and warned that while peaceful protests would be allowed, strict action would be taken against those involved in violence, vandalism or disruption of public order.
