India wicketkeeper-batter Ishan Kishan said he deliberately put the team’s interests ahead of a personal milestone after his explosive 81 off 44 balls helped India seal the T20I series against Zimbabwe.
Kishan’s innings, featuring nine fours and two sixes, powered India to 219/5 before the visitors bowled out Zimbabwe for 129 to register a comprehensive 90-run victory in the second T20I at Harare Sports Club. The win gave India an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series.
Despite being just 19 runs short of a century, Kishan said he never thought of slowing down to reach the landmark.
“To be very honest, I did not have that in mind to go ahead and get 100. I was just trying to smack every ball. I had an option of being a little slow and scoring my 100, but it’s always about the team and keeping your team first,” he said in a video shared by the BCCI.
Kishan also praised vice-captain Tilak Varma, whose unbeaten 60 off 29 balls ensured India maintained the scoring rate in the closing overs. The duo stitched together a crucial 94-run partnership for the fourth wicket.
He said constant communication helped them build the stand on a pitch that offered variable bounce, while Tilak’s positive approach kept the momentum firmly with India.
Kishan also thanked Indian supporters in Harare for creating a home-like atmosphere during the series, saying their encouragement meant a lot to the team.
India completed the victory with an impressive bowling display led by Abhishek Sharma, who claimed 3/17 as Zimbabwe were dismissed for 129.
