India’s sub-junior men’s team defeated arch-rivals Pakistan 3-1 in the final to clinch the FIH Youth Hockey5s Asian Championship title, completing an unbeaten campaign in Muscat.
Romit Pal opened the scoring in the fifth minute before captain Ketan Kushwaha doubled India’s lead in the 12th minute. Shahrukh Ali struck a minute later to make it 3-0 and put India firmly in control. Pakistan reduced the deficit through Muhammad Usman in the 16th minute, but India’s defence held firm to seal the championship.
The Indian men’s side finished the tournament unbeaten after topping the Elite Pool standings. By reaching the final, both India and Pakistan also secured qualification for the inaugural FIH Youth Hockey5s World Cup.
In the women’s competition, India’s sub-junior team finished runners-up after losing a closely contested final to China, returning home with the silver medal.
Following the twin podium finishes, Hockey India announced cash rewards for both teams. Each player of the title-winning men’s team will receive ₹2 lakh, while members of the support staff will be awarded ₹1 lakh each.
Players of the silver medal-winning women’s team will receive ₹1 lakh each, with ₹50,000 each for members of the support staff.
