A woman was allegedly molested by a co-passenger aboard a Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) bus near Manyata Tech Park in Bengaluru, following which the bus driver intervened, prevented the accused from escaping and allegedly assaulted him.
According to preliminary information, the incident occurred on Friday on a BMTC bus operating on route No. 500D/40.
The woman alleged that a male passenger inappropriately touched her during the journey. She immediately confronted the accused and reportedly slapped him.
As the accused allegedly attempted to flee, the bus driver shut the vehicle’s doors to stop him from escaping. According to reports, the man then tried to intimidate the woman by removing his shirt. The driver subsequently assaulted the accused in the presence of other passengers.
A video purportedly showing the incident has gone viral on social media.
The incident has raised concerns over the safety of women commuters, particularly as it occurred near Manyata Tech Park, one of Bengaluru’s major IT hubs where thousands of women employees rely on public transport.
Police and BMTC officials are examining the viral video and collecting evidence to establish the sequence of events. Authorities have not yet officially identified either the complainant or the accused, and further investigation is underway.
