Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi and Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge on Sunday paid tributes to the soldiers who laid down their lives during the 1999 Kargil War, remembering their courage, valour and supreme sacrifice on the occasion of the 27th Kargil Vijay Diwas.
In a post on X, Rahul Gandhi said the nation would always remain indebted to the brave soldiers who sacrificed their lives while defending India’s borders.
“A humble tribute to all the brave soldiers who made the supreme sacrifice while defending India’s borders, on Kargil Victory Day. The nation will forever remain indebted to your courage, valour, and supreme sacrifice,” he wrote.
Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge also honoured the fallen soldiers, describing their courage and unwavering commitment to the nation as an enduring source of inspiration.
“We pay homage with reverence to our immortal heroes who made the supreme sacrifice while defending the motherland in the Kargil War. Their indomitable courage, unparalleled valour, and unwavering dedication to the nation will forever remain a source of inspiration for us all,” Kharge said in his message.
India is observing the 27th Kargil Vijay Diwas to commemorate its victory in the 1999 Kargil War, when Indian armed forces recaptured strategic mountain positions occupied by Pakistani intruders along the Line of Control (LoC).
The conflict, which began in May 1999, was fought under Operation Vijay, supported by the Indian Air Force’s Operation Safed Sagar, and ended with India successfully regaining control of the occupied heights.
