In a shocking incident, a bike-borne youth was shot dead by motorcycle-riding assailants near Sant Baba Bhag Singh University in Adampur on Thursday.
The deceased has been identified as Kesar Dhami, who was travelling on a motorcycle along with two of his friends. According to preliminary information, another bike carrying assailants deliberately rammed into their motorcycle, causing Kesar Dhami to fall onto the road.
Taking advantage of the situation, one of the attackers allegedly fired at him from close range, hitting him in the head. Kesar Dhami died on the spot due to the gunshot injury.
Police sources said the main assailant has been identified as Jassa, a resident of village Daroli Kalan. It is alleged that while opening fire, the attacker referred to an old dispute with the victim, indicating a possible personal rivalry.
After the shooting, the assailants fled the scene on their motorcycle.
It has emerged that Kesar Dhami, a native of village Sadra Sodhian, was currently staying in Adampur with his friend Bhupinder Singh.
Police have registered a case in connection with the incident and have begun an intensive investigation. CCTV footage from the surrounding areas is being examined to reconstruct the sequence of events and trace the fleeing accused.
