Chandigarh, July 26, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)
Punjab Police on Sunday claimed to have foiled a major terror plot with the busting of an alleged ISI-sponsored Babbar Khalsa International (BKI) terror module and the arrest of a key operative from Jalandhar district.
According to Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav, the breakthrough was achieved in a joint operation conducted by Counter Intelligence, Jalandhar, and Jalandhar Rural Police. The operation targeted a terror network allegedly being operated by foreign-based handlers.
Police said the operation led to the recovery of an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) containing approximately 1.3 kg of high explosive. The device was also packed with shrapnel and ball bearings, indicating that it was designed to cause extensive damage and casualties.
The DGP said the timely action by the police had averted a major terror threat and helped protect innocent lives by preventing what investigators believe could have been a high-impact attack intended to disturb public peace.
An FIR has been registered at Police Station Patara in Jalandhar Rural under the relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), the Explosive Substances Act and the Arms Act.
Police said investigations are continuing to identify and establish the complete terror network, including the role of foreign-based handlers, local support structures and all forward and backward linkages connected with the alleged conspiracy.
Reaffirming the force’s commitment to maintaining law and order, the Punjab Police said it would continue its efforts to dismantle terror networks, combat organised crime and ensure peace, security and public safety across the state.
