Special Intensive Revision Of Electoral Rolls To Be Conducted With Complete Transparency in Ferozepur: DC Deepshikha Sharma

Ferozepur, July 7, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

The Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in this border district will be undertaken in a transparent, systematic and time-bound manner in accordance with the directions of the Election Commission of India and the Punjab State Election Commission, District Election Officer-cum-Deputy Commissioner Deepshikha Sharma said while chairing a meeting with representatives of recognised political parties regarding the rationalisation of polling stations.

Emphasising the importance of the exercise, DC said the Election Commission’s objective is to ensure that every eligible citizen is included in the electoral rolls while the names of ineligible persons are identified and removed. She said the revision process is aimed at maintaining the accuracy and credibility of the electoral database, thereby strengthening the democratic process.

The DC informed that elaborate arrangements have already been made for the exercise across the district. A total of 903 Booth Level Officers (BLOs) and 91 Sector Officers have been deployed to facilitate the revision process at the existing 903 polling stations. She added that training of the field staff and the printing of pre-filled enumeration forms have already been completed as per the schedule issued by the Election Commission.

She further said that BLOs will conduct door-to-door visits and distribute pre-printed enumeration forms to voters, besides assisting them in filling the forms wherever required. This exercise will continue till July 24, 2026, to ensure maximum coverage and participation of eligible voters.

Sharing the timeline for the revision process, the DC said the draft electoral rolls will be published on August 3, 2026. Claims and objections regarding the rolls can be submitted from August 3 to September 2, while all such claims and objections will be disposed of by September 28. The final electoral rolls are scheduled to be published on October 1, 2026.

During the meeting, DC Sharma also interacted with representatives of various political parties, listened to their suggestions and concerns, and directed the concerned officials to address the issues raised. She appealed to all political parties to extend full cooperation to the administration for the successful implementation of the Special Intensive Revision campaign.

Talking about the rationalisation of polling stations, she said that as per Election Commission guidelines, a separate polling booth is proposed wherever the number of voters exceeds 1,200. Following the rationalisation exercise, a proposal has been prepared to increase the number of polling booths in the district from 903 to 936, which will help ensure greater convenience for voters and improve polling station management.

Appealing to the residents of the district, the Deputy Commissioner urged all voters to cooperate with BLOs during the revision process so that every eligible citizen can be enrolled in the electoral rolls.

Additional Electoral Registration Officer-cum-Additional Deputy Commissioner (G) Dr Amandeep Kaur, Election Tehsildar Deepak Kumar, Election Kanungo Gagandeep Kaur and representatives of various political parties were present at the meeting.
