The Punjab unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will launch a statewide ‘Samrasta Sankalp Abhiyan’ on July 29, coinciding with Guru Purnima, to commemorate the 650th birth anniversary year of Sant Shiromani Shri Guru Ravidas Maharaj.
Announcing the campaign on Monday, Punjab BJP President Kewal Singh Dhillon said the initiative will be conducted from July 29, 2026 (Guru Purnima) to February 20, 2027 (Magha Purnima) under the guidance of the BJP’s national leadership. The campaign aims to promote Guru Ravidas Ji’s message of equality, dignity, social harmony and social justice across the state.
Dhillon said the campaign will begin with the Shri Guru Ravidas Maharaj Samrasta Deep Mahotsav, during which lamps will be lit at Guru Ravidas temples across Punjab. The programme will also feature bhajans, religious discourses, cultural events and community langars.
He said the Shri Guru Ravidas Maharaj Kalash Vandan Abhiyan, scheduled from July 29 to September 10, will involve carrying a sacred kalash containing holy soil from Guru Ravidas Ji’s birthplace at Seer Govardhanpur in Varanasi across Punjab before it is ceremonially presented at Guru Ravidas temples.
According to the BJP, the campaign will also include the Sant Sampark Abhiyan from July 29 to August 31, during which party leaders and workers will meet saints associated with the Guru Ravidas tradition and seek their blessings.
Another key component of the campaign will be the Shri Guru Ravidas Maharaj Samrasta Yatra, to be held from October 5 to November 5, which will travel from Dera Sach Khand Ballan in Jalandhar to Seer Govardhanpur, Varanasi, with the objective of spreading Guru Ravidas Ji’s teachings on equality, social harmony and national unity.
The party will also organise the Shri Guru Ravidas Maharaj Chhatrawas Sampark Abhiyan between November 26, 2026, and January 15, 2027. The programme will include interactions with students in hostels through Samrasta Samvaad sessions aimed at familiarising them with Guru Ravidas Ji’s teachings and the vision of a developed India.
To oversee the implementation of the campaign in Punjab, the BJP has constituted a state-level committee under the convenorship of Dr. Jagmohan Singh Raju, IAS (Retd.), General Secretary of BJP Punjab. The committee includes former MLAs Avinash Chander, Sheetal Angural and Ravi Inder Kahlon, retired IAS officer S.R. Ladhar, Renu Kashyap and Bhanu Partap as members.
