BJP MP Anurag Thakur on Tuesday accused the Congress of disrespecting Indian culture and traditions after Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra referred to an expert member of a government panel as a “Gaumutra expert” during the Lok Sabha debate on the Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Amendment Bill, 2026.
Participating in the discussion in the Lower House, Thakur criticised Priyanka Gandhi’s remarks against Prof. V. Kamakoti, Director of IIT Madras, who is among the six domain experts appointed to a multidisciplinary panel tasked with reforms in the National Testing Agency (NTA) following the NEET paper leak controversy.
Thakur alleged that Priyanka Gandhi was misleading people and said Prof. Kamakoti’s qualifications were greater than those of her entire family.
“His qualification is greater than that of your entire family,” Thakur said while responding to the Congress MP’s remarks.
Targeting the Congress, the BJP leader said the party had repeatedly mocked India’s culture, traditions and scientists. He said Prof. Kamakoti, an expert in modern technology and artificial intelligence, was also free to study aspects of India’s traditional knowledge systems.
Thakur further criticised the Congress leadership, saying he had expected Priyanka Gandhi to have a different approach from her brother Rahul Gandhi but claimed that both leaders shared a similar mindset.
During the debate, Thakur also compared the government’s efforts against paper leaks with its action against terrorism and Maoism, saying the Centre would eliminate examination fraud from its roots.
The BJP MP from Hamirpur also targeted Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi over the Congress protest near Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s residence on July 21, alleging that the move was inappropriate for a Leader of Opposition.
Thakur said genuine student protesters had raised concerns over examination reforms and did not intend to engage in violence or damage public property. He urged Union Home Minister Amit Shah to take action against alleged anti-social elements who attempted to disrupt the protests.
He also criticised the Samajwadi Party, referring to allegations that the party had weakened anti-copying measures in Uttar Pradesh during its previous rule. His remarks drew protests from SP members in the House.
