Over 4.45 Lakh People Affected as Assam Flood Situation Remains Critical

Guwahati, July 28, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

The flood situation in Assam remained critical on Tuesday, with more than 4.45 lakh people affected across six districts even as the state government intensified rescue and relief operations.

According to the latest flood bulletin issued by the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA), a total of 4,45,385 people have been affected in Sivasagar, Charaideo, Golaghat, Jorhat, Nagaon and Kamrup (Metropolitan) districts.

Charaideo continues to be the worst-hit district, with nearly 1.88 lakh affected residents, followed by Sivasagar, where around 1.44 lakh people have been impacted by the floods.

The ASDMA said 631 villages spread across 21 revenue circles remain inundated. While extensive damage has been reported to houses, roads, educational institutions and agricultural land, authorities said no human casualties have been reported so far.

Floodwaters have submerged 37,139.52 hectares of agricultural land, while more than 2.56 lakh livestock have been affected. Officials said over 26,000 domestic animals have been washed away in the floods.

Among the state’s major rivers, the Dhansiri (South) at Numaligarh continued to flow above the danger level, although no river has crossed its highest flood level.

The state government is operating 184 relief camps and distribution centres, where 28,695 displaced people are currently taking shelter. The inmates include 97 pregnant or lactating women and 42 persons with disabilities.

Rescue operations are continuing with teams from the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and district administrations deploying 67 boats to evacuate stranded residents.

The floods have also caused significant damage to infrastructure. Officials reported that 171 houses have been completely destroyed, while 4,667 others have suffered partial damage. Several roads in Sivasagar, Jorhat and Charaideo have been breached or submerged, and a number of primary schools have reported flooding and structural damage.

Urban flooding was also reported from Chandmari in Guwahati under the Dispur revenue circle, although no displacement of residents has been recorded there.

Meanwhile, Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) Assam unit president Ahmad Ali Ayyubi said around 2,400 flood-affected families have received relief materials. He said Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma are closely monitoring the situation, while the state government has ensured the supply of essential ration items in the affected areas.
