Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Tuesday targeted Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the Lok Sabha debate on the Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Amendment Bill, 2026, saying that changing the government’s approach was more important than changing the camera angle for social media outreach.
Participating in the discussion, Priyanka Gandhi said the government needed to address the concerns of protesting students instead of focusing on public perception.
“You can remove protestors from the road but cannot ignore the questions being raised by them,” she said, urging the Prime Minister to change the “angle of heart” rather than the “angle of a phone camera” to connect with Gen Z.
The Congress leader said the government needed to improve its intent and restore public confidence while calling for major reforms in the education sector, including greater involvement of experts, job creation and expansion of medical education facilities.
During her speech, Priyanka Gandhi also questioned the effectiveness of the proposed examination reforms, pointing out that a similar law introduced in 2024 had not resulted in convictions in paper leak cases.
She alleged that technology such as facial recognition was being used to monitor students, while similar measures were yet to be effectively deployed against those involved in examination fraud.
Raising concerns over student protests linked to alleged examination irregularities, the Wayanad MP questioned the use of force against demonstrators and sought accountability from those responsible for the reported actions.
“Are students terrorists? What was the need to use pellet guns and AK-47 against them?” she asked, demanding answers from the government.
Priyanka Gandhi alleged that repeated paper leaks had damaged the credibility of the examination system and claimed that students and parents were losing faith in the process.
Her remarks also led to a confrontation with the treasury benches after she made comments regarding the new Education Minister Pralhad Joshi. Joshi objected to the remarks and sought their authentication, following which Speaker Om Birla advised her to keep her speech focused on the examination amendment bill.
