The National Democratic Alliance (NDA) on Tuesday announced a list of 13 Members of Parliament who will participate in the Lok Sabha debate on the Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Amendment Bill, 2026, aimed at strengthening measures against paper leaks and examination fraud.
The NDA’s list includes BJP MPs Bansuri Swaraj, Tejasvi Surya, Anurag Thakur, Shashank Mani Tripathi, Bhola Singh and Vishnu Dutt Sharma. The alliance will also be represented by TDP MP Lavu Krishna Devarayalu, JD(U) leaders Rajiv Ranjan Singh alias Lalan Singh, Sanjay Jha and Alok Suman, Shiv Sena MP Shrikant Shinde, Apna Dal (S) leader Anupriya Patel and NCP MP Sunil Tatkare.
The Congress has nominated Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi, K.C. Venugopal and Jothimani Sennimalai to speak during the discussion.
Earlier in the day, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla informed the House that the anti-paper leak Bill would be taken up for discussion at 2 p.m. He appealed to members to allow Question Hour to function smoothly, but persistent disruptions forced the House to be adjourned until 2 p.m.
The Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Amendment Bill, 2026, was introduced in the Lok Sabha on Monday by Minister of State for Personnel Jitendra Singh. The legislation seeks to amend the Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Act, 2024.
The proposed amendments are aimed at strengthening transparency and integrity in the public examination system by introducing tougher legal provisions against paper leaks and examination malpractices.
Among the key provisions are imprisonment of up to 10 years, fines of up to ₹10 crore, confiscation of the assets of those found guilty, and the establishment of fast-track courts mandated to complete trials and deliver judgments within three months.
The Bill follows the Union Cabinet’s approval of stricter legal measures against examination fraud and comes after Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced that the government would introduce comprehensive legislation to curb paper leaks and protect the interests of students.
