Sikh Youths Were Attacked by Locals, Tortured by Uttarakhand Police: Damdami Taksal & Sant Samaj Demand Action

Amritsar, June 20, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

Sant Giani Harnam Singh Khalsa, Head of Damdami Taksal and President of the Sant Samaj, has strongly condemned the alleged atrocities committed by the local police against Sikh youths following the registration of what he described as a one-sided case against Sikh pilgrims after an incident in Karnaprayag, Uttarakhand.

He stated that facts and video evidence that have emerged so far clearly indicate that the Sikh youths were not at fault and that the confrontation was initiated by local individuals. Despite this, instead of acting impartially, the police allegedly targeted the Sikh youths alone.

Demanding the immediate release of the Sikh youths who were allegedly arrested unjustly, Sant Giani Harnam Singh Khalsa called for the registration of criminal cases against those who allegedly orchestrated and carried out attacks on Sikh pilgrims and for their immediate arrest. He also demanded strict legal and departmental action against police officials accused of mistreating the Sikh youths and adopting a biased approach.

He said that booking Sikh youths under serious charges, subjecting them to alleged inhuman treatment while in custody, and reportedly removing their turbans before presenting them in court are highly condemnable acts that have deeply hurt Sikh religious sentiments. He emphasized that the turban is an inseparable symbol of Sikh identity, dignity, and religious faith, and any disrespect toward it is unacceptable to the Sikh community.

The Damdami Taksal chief stated that it is the responsibility of the Uttarakhand Government to ensure the safety, dignity, and religious freedom of the lakhs of Sikh pilgrims who visit Gurdwara Sri Hemkund Sahib every year. He asserted that any form of discrimination, injustice, or biased treatment toward the Sikh community would not be tolerated.

Expressing concern, Sant Giani Harnam Singh Khalsa said that incidents involving Sikh pilgrims during religious journeys in Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh over the past several years need to be taken seriously. He stressed that the forces behind such acts of hatred and communal hostility must be exposed to prevent attempts aimed at damaging social harmony, mutual trust, and national unity.

He informed that a delegation comprising Giani Sahib Singh, Giani Satnam Singh, Giani Gurpreet Singh Vaid, Giani Ravinder Pal Singh, and Giani Avtar Singh Maluwal, under the leadership of Giani Sahib Singh, would meet the District Magistrate of Karnaprayag to seek a thorough investigation and ensure justice for the affected Sikh youths.

Sant Giani Harnam Singh Khalsa warned that if impartial action is not taken against the culprits and justice is denied to the innocent Sikh youths, Sikh organizations and the Sant Samaj will be compelled to raise the matter at higher forums.
