Mann Govt’s ‘Mukh Mantri Sehat Yojna’ brings relief to MasterChef India contestant Harmanpreet Kaur after years of illness & mounting medical expenses

Chandigarh/Patiala, June 7, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

The Bhagwant Mann Government’s Mukh Mantri Sehat Yojna (MMSY) has brought relief to 51-year-old Harmanpreet Kaur, a Patiala-based entrepreneur and Top-20 contestant of MasterChef India Season 6, who had been battling multiple health conditions, including complications arising from a brain haemorrhage, chronic bleeding, diabetes and psoriasis, for over a decade.

Admitted to Rajindra Hospital, Patiala, on April 30, 2026, after suffering from excessive menstrual bleeding for nearly two years, Harmanpreet underwent a successful laparoscopic surgery on May 2. She said Mukh Mantri Sehat Yojna not only removed the financial burden of treatment but also ensured timely access to quality healthcare.

Harmanpreet’s medical challenges began in November 2011 when she suffered a brain haemorrhage and developed neurological complications. The prolonged illness also impacted the family’s financial stability, with her husband leaving his private-sector job to care for her. The medical expenses, however, continued to accumulate.

A few years later, in 2025, during her perimenopause, she suffered chronic bleeding. And due to her medical history, surgical interventions involving anaesthesia carried significant risks. Despite undergoing various treatments, including Mirena insertions in 2020 and 2024, her condition persisted, resulting in continuous bleeding for almost two years.

Speaking about the case, Dr Preet Kamal Sibia, Professor, Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Government Medical College and Rajindra Hospital, said, “Harmanpreet, a perimenopausal woman, presented with heavy menstrual bleeding for nearly a decade along with multiple co-morbidities, including hypertension, Type-2 diabetes, hypothyroidism, psoriasis and neurological complications.”

Dr Preet Kamal Sibia added, “She had a large fibroid and had earlier undergone prolonged medical treatment without success. After thorough evaluation, our team performed a Total Laparoscopic Hysterectomy. The surgery was successful, her post-operative recovery was uneventful and she was discharged in a stable and satisfactory condition.”

Harmanpreet said she was enrolled under the Mukh Mantri Sehat Yojna during her treatment, after Dr Sibia advised her, which significantly reduced the financial stress on her family.

She appreciated the Bhagwant Mann government for introducing such thoughtful scheme, and also praised the doctors and the hospital staff for providing compassionate care and addressing her other health concerns, including diabetes and psoriasis, alongside the primary treatment.

Known for her entrepreneurial journey, Harmanpreet has, over the years, operated a tiffin service, food cart and food van in Patiala. Despite years of illness, she pursued her passion for cooking and secured a place among the Top 20 contestants of MasterChef India Season 6. Now that she is recovering, she plans to fulfill her dreams once again.

Expressing gratitude for the cashless treatment and timely care she said the experience has resorted her faith in public service and strengthened her trust in the government “Beneficiaries like me are an example how affordable healthcare can transform the lives of common man, mainly those who face prolonged illnesses,” she added.
