Maharaja Ranjit Singh Punjab Technical University (MRSPTU), Bathinda, achieved another milestone in strengthening agricultural education and digital learning with the inauguration of a state-of-the-art Agriculture Computer Laboratory at the School of Agriculture Sciences and Engineering (SASE). The laboratory, equipped with 30 desktop computers, has been sponsored by Indian Bank under its educational support initiative.
The laboratory was inaugurated by Shri Shivneet Sharma, Zonal Manager, Indian Bank and Prof. Sanjeev Kumar Sharma, Vice Chancellor, MRSPTU. The occasion was also attended by Shri Shobit Dawer, Estate Officer, Indian Bank; Shri Vikram Basetia, Branch Manager, Indian Bank; Prof. Harish Garg, P/I Finance, MRSPTU ; Prof. Jasvir Singh Tiwana, Head, SASE; Er. Harjot Singh Sidhu, Director, MRSPTU, Dr. Kanwaljit Singh, Assistant Professor and Mr. Rajinder Singh, Senior Technician.
Speaking on the occasion, Vice Chancellor Prof. Sanjeev Kumar Sharma emphasized the growing role of digital technologies in agriculture. He stated that modern agriculture increasingly depends on computer-based applications such as precision farming, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), data analytics, artificial intelligence, and smart farm management practices.
He added that the newly established laboratory would provide students and researchers with access to advanced digital resources, strengthen their technical capabilities, and support innovative research activities. He further noted that the facility would significantly enhance teaching, learning, project work, and skill development within the agriculture department.
Addressing the faculty, Shri Shivneet Sharma, Zonal Manager, Indian Bank, said that Indian Bank remains committed to supporting education and technological advancement through meaningful community initiatives.
He stated that the sponsorship of the Agriculture Computer Laboratory reflects the Bank’s dedication to empowering students with modern digital skills and creating opportunities for academic excellence. He expressed confidence that the facility would help nurture future agricultural professionals capable of contributing to sustainable agricultural development and national progress.
The dignitaries appreciated the efforts of MRSPTU in promoting quality agricultural education and expressed hope that the laboratory would serve as a valuable resource for students, faculty members, and researchers for years to come.
Welcoming the dignitaries, Prof. Jasvir Singh Tiwana and Dr. Kanwaljit Singh briefed the gathering about the rapid development of the School of Agriculture Sciences and Engineering and its academic programmes, including B.Sc. (Hons.) Agriculture, B.Tech. Agricultural Engineering, B.Voc. Agriculture, and M.Sc. programmes in Agronomy, Horticulture, Fruit Science, and Vegetable Science.
The entire faculty of the department was present on the occasion.
