Punjab BJP president Kewal Singh Dhillon has congratulated ABVP candidate Ankit Bidhan on securing the presidency of the Panjab University Campus Students’ Council for a second consecutive term, describing the victory as an indication of the preferences and expectations of the younger generation.
Reacting to the election result, Dhillon said the decision of Panjab University students was more than the outcome of a campus election and reflected the thinking, aspirations and confidence of the youth. He said the Gen Z electorate had backed the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) for the second successive year, which, according to him, demonstrated a preference for development, nationalism, transparency and strong leadership over what he termed negative politics.
Dhillon noted that ABVP had won the Panjab University presidency for the first time last year. He said Ankit Bidhan’s second consecutive victory had turned the achievement into a significant milestone for the organisation.
“The youth of Panjab University have made their choice clear. This victory shows that Punjab’s younger generation is connecting with the BJP’s ideology and Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s development-oriented vision for change and a better future,” Dhillon said.
He said Punjab’s youth were seeking employment opportunities, freedom from drugs, quality education, industrial growth and wider avenues for development. According to Dhillon, the BJP would place these aspirations at the centre of its political agenda.
The Punjab BJP president also sought to link the university election result with the 2027 Punjab Assembly elections, saying it carried an important political message. He claimed that people, including young voters, were increasingly viewing the BJP as a strong alternative in the state and said the party would work with full strength to form the government in Punjab in 2027.
Dhillon thanked Ankit Bidhan, ABVP workers and Panjab University students for the mandate. He said the victory marked the beginning of a new responsibility and urged the newly elected student council to make addressing students’ concerns its foremost priority.
