Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has urged students and young professionals to remain patient in their pursuit of success, stressing that life should not be treated as a race in which everyone is expected to progress at the same pace.
Sarma was speaking at the 33rd Foundation Day celebrations of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Guwahati on Tuesday, where he congratulated the institution for its contributions to innovation, learning and academic excellence.
Addressing students and faculty members, the Chief Minister said young people should not become discouraged if their progress is slower than that of those around them.
“Life is not a race. Even if you don’t run fast, it’s absolutely okay. You won’t be a broken Anda,” Sarma said in a light-hearted message to the students.
Using humour to underline his message, Sarma said success should not be judged simply by how quickly a person reaches a particular destination. He encouraged students to focus on their individual journeys, strengthen their capabilities and continue working towards their goals without constantly comparing themselves with others.
The Chief Minister also highlighted IIT Guwahati’s role in Assam’s education and innovation ecosystem, describing it as an important centre for learning, research and technological advancement.
He said the institute’s 33-year journey demonstrated the importance of providing young minds with an environment where they can experiment, innovate and pursue new ideas.
Sarma said institutions such as IIT Guwahati have an important role in preparing young Indians for a rapidly changing world, where knowledge, innovation and adaptability are increasingly important.
He urged students to make the most of their time at the institute and remain confident in their abilities while pursuing their aspirations.
The Chief Minister’s informal remarks drew attention for their broader message that there is no fixed timeline for success and that a slower journey does not amount to failure.
He emphasised that patience, perseverance and continuous learning are essential qualities for young people seeking to build successful careers and make meaningful contributions to society.
