Tamil Nadu cricketer Shahrukh Khan has revealed that although he was named after Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan, the actor he is most eager to meet is Salman Khan.
The 29-year-old batter made the remark in an interview after leading Kovai Kings to their third Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL) title.
“I really wish to meet Salman Khan more than Shah Rukh,” Shahrukh said.
The cricketer said he has never met Shah Rukh Khan despite several opportunities during his Indian Premier League (IPL) career, particularly while playing against Kolkata Knight Riders, the franchise co-owned by the Bollywood star.
“I haven’t met Shah Rukh Khan as yet. We played quite a few matches against KKR, but he did not come for those games. If he had come, I would have met him. I hope to meet him soon,” he said.
Shahrukh added that he was named after the actor because he was born after the superstar had already become famous. He said he was looking forward to seeing Shah Rukh Khan’s reaction whenever they eventually meet.
“I’ll wait for his reaction first because I was named after him. I’ve heard he has an uncanny sense of humour. Varun Chakravarthy, who is a good friend of mine, has told me he is a wonderful person at heart,” he said.
Over the years, Shahrukh Khan has established himself as one of Tamil Nadu’s prominent white-ball cricketers, building an identity beyond his famous name. He has represented multiple IPL franchises and most recently played for Gujarat Titans.
His latest success came in the TNPL, where he captained Kovai Kings to an 84-run victory over Madurai Panthers in the final, helping the franchise win its third championship and become only the second team in tournament history to achieve the feat.
Shahrukh described the TNPL as a vital platform for cricketers from Tamil Nadu, saying it had helped players such as T. Natarajan, Varun Chakravarthy and several others progress to the IPL and higher levels of domestic cricket.
He also reflected on a difficult IPL 2026 campaign with Gujarat Titans, where he struggled for form and was dropped from the playing XI midway through the season.
The batter said he used the break after the IPL to work on a technical flaw in his batting.
“My front foot was going too far across, which was affecting my batting. I spent a couple of months working on my technique and came into the TNPL with much greater confidence,” he said.
